These classes are designed to teach men and women how to create and maintain lasting, satisfying relationships with each other. The course is designed for male/female couples in committed relationships. They may be in a legally bound relationship (i.e., husband and wife), or in a self-defined, committed relationship in which neither partner is legally married to anyone else. Partners do not necessarily live in the same house.

AAPT classes are designed to teach biological parents and parent surrogates (e.g., step-parents, custodians, guardians, and foster parents) how to work together effectively to rear children to become happy, healthy, productive citizens. Pulling together on behalf of the children is especially challenging when partners are no longer in intmate relationships with each other and more so when there are new partners in the picture.
